What does ritual provide us? Kaddish is an ancient Aramaic mourners’ prayer that does not once mention death. It is said every shabbos by the community. Through the course of a year, through wrenching pain, through disbelief, through deepest sorrow, it is evoked. It can feel forced, meaningless even. Then normal. Then comforting, welcome, as it slowly carves a nest in your heart for grief to live.
